Ski Mountaineering Races Redefined
Racing is over...
now it is time to use that winter skimo fitness for your spring Skimo objectives
All of the hours #skiresortmountaineering are about to pay off as the snow starts to consolidate and we move into SPRING! Getting out further into the backcountry and moving up higher onto steeper slopes is what ski mountaineering is all about. Document using your winter skimo skills for those spring skimo objectives and share them with us on Instagram!
Breck 5 Peaks ReCap & Results
The High Alpine Environment struck again for the Breck 5 Peaks this year! After a couple delayed starts and an impending cancellation we pulled off Plan D courses with ~6200’ and ~4600’! -8F Summit temperatures and +70mph gusts prevented the amazing @breckskipatrol from getting the terrain open for us. We had an 8:45 new course meeting and a 9:00 start! With more than 6 miles of the new course unflagged Brad LaRochelle was out on course setting the impromptu course all while staying ahead of most racers!
Many athletes had to drop because of the cold and frost bite concerns on various parts of their bodies. Many athletes stopped at the Chair 6 warming hut and TBar patrol shack and managed to finish the event!
Thank you to @breckskipatrol, all racers, @light_expressions 📸, and volunteers who helped scramble and keep the race from being canceled.
Breck Resort pulled the plug on out of bounds travel for this race...
What does this mean for you?
5 Peaks will still have 7500' of climbing
5 Peaks will offer a full length INDIVIDUAL CATEGORY if you want to change categories or distances email me and we will get you squared away.
5 Peaks and 3 Peaks will still require the non-sanctioned Mandatory Gear for your safety. Unless you crawl your head and hands will be above 13000' so please be prepared for high alpine winter conditions.
Check out the updated course mapS on OnX backcountry.

Call it what you will... these all have one thing in common:
Traveling on snow, in the mountains, as efficiently as possible.
You don't have to be wearing spandex or be on 60mm wide skis to do an up and down race on snow. Challenge yourself this winter by moving faster uphill and preparing yourself for your mountain goals.
Rocky Mountain Skimo is kicking the season off with races at Wolf Creek and Arapahoe Basin!
