Welcome to the 2024-25 Skimo Season!
The resort has closed Peak 9 & 10 terrain so PLEASE treat this as a Backcountry Event until we get to the Water Station Warming Hut on Peak 8
Summit County Rescue Group will be in the out of bounds Peak 10 & 9 area. He is there to be a first responder in case there is an injury. If evacuation is needed he can coordinate that through the correct channels, but it could take multiple hours. SO PLEASE BE CAREFUL. As the conditions are variable and both descents start above 13000’
5 Peaks is a RECOMMENDED TEAMS RACE but based off of favorable conditions will offer a full length INDIVIDUAL CATEGORY, the skiing will have variable conditions up high so please be careful as an evacuation will have to be done by Summit County Rescue Group NOT Breck Patrol.
You are welcome to switch race distances, preferably BEFORE you pick up your bib, let me know at registration. If you decide to Switch mid race let me know at the finish line.
5 Peaks BIB - PINK
3 Peaks BIB - BLUE
1 PEAK BIB - BLUE
10 miles of the 15 mile 5 Peaks Course will be ABOVE TREELINE, so please be prepared. Weather forecast looks great, but….
The summits of 10 & 9 are not conducive for transition zones, and will be located as near to the summit as is safe. Today the winds were too strong for me to set the flagging to the standard transition zone boxes so the stakes are at the area but there is not a “box”. With this long of a race I do not believe that pushing your comfort zone to reach the true summit will change your podium. These are backcountry ski descents not ski area descents, so please ski within your ability.
REQUIRED FOR ALL RACERS:
Cell Phone: Call 208-921-2656 if there is an injury or if you are not finishing.
Please reference the USA SKIMO Mandatory gear list for your safety
Avi Gear for 5 Peaks Racers
Avi Danger is LOW, doesn't mean it isn't possible, so 5 Peaks racers (Pink Bibs) Will be required to have Avalanche gear. The route is on the skiers right of Peak 10 & 9 and the wind slab danger is on the skiers left near the West Ridge. Please stick to the course.
Patrol will be mitigating all in Bounds Terrain - 3 Peaks Course
